Carpenter nails it • Chris Carpenter, who pitched the Cardinals into the playoffs on the last day of the season with a complete-game shutout over Houston, repeated the effort against a slightly stronger club to get St. Louis into the NLCS. Carpenter shut out the Phillies, 1-0, in a deciding Game 5 to put the Cardinals into the NLCS against Milwaukee. Game 1 is Sunday at 3 p.m. in Milwaukee. (Photos by David Carson and Chris Lee)
